About the Artist
Marquita Macon calls herself 'Kita' and signs her artwork by that name.
Her painting style was developed after many years of experimentation and study. She has studied with some of America's finest artists: Daniel E. Greene, Lajos Markos, Greg Kreutz, Jim Wilcox, Richard McKinley, George Kountoupis, and Tony Couch, to name a few.
Kita has won over fifty top awards in art competitions across the United States. Oil Painters of America awarded her "Best of Show" in both 1997 and 1998 in their "Eastern and Southern Regional Show."
She is a signature member of Oil Painters of America, Pastel Society of America and Connecticut Pastel Society. She is also a member of the Portrait Society of America and some local art organizations in Georgia. She was one of five founding members of the Degas Pastel Society of New Orleans, Louisiana.
In April 1997, American Artist Magazine featured an article by Kita on her indirect painting style in oil. [link] Her article was modified and featured again in American Artist's 2001 limited edition COLOR.
She has taught classes and workshops for thirty-eight years. She currently maintains a gallery in Jesup, Georgia.
